Reiki Spirit - July 2024

Greetings Fellow Reiki Enthusiasts!

Summer is officially here! I hope you enjoyed the start of summer, lingering in the extra glow of the sun during the summer solstice.  Even though it was a cloudy and rainy day, the sun was still present, lighting our way on the longest day of light of the year.

Summer in Milwaukee is always magical. We shed the hibernation of the long winter and tenuous spring and head out to enjoy the many blessings of the season.  I enjoy seeing more people out and about, walking their dogs and chatting with neighbors.  It is the perfect time to reconnect with those we hold dear, enjoying our time with love and laughter, joy, and hope, and a promise that we can strive to make a more peaceful world for us all.  May the lightness of summer carry you through this glorious season.

Reiki News and Tips

What Would Dr. Usui Do?

I feel honored to share that Monica and I recently returned from the Wisdom of Reiki Conference, held at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. It was an experience unlike any other.  Imagine being in a large room full of Reiki Teachers, Reiki Practitioners, and Reiki Curious, all with the same intention of how can we learn more about the experience that is Reiki? One that each of us has been called to do in our own way. Can you feel the energy level of the room rise?

The Omega campus is in a beautiful setting, nestled in the Hudson Valley of New York, literally in the middle of nowhere.  A perfect place to pause and reflect and spend some time away focusing on the present moment, and getting a chance to decompress.

Like anything in life, the time there was not without its challenges.  The day we arrived, there was a huge storm that brought down an electric pole nearby and we were without power for two days. They had generators running to provide power to crucial areas, but some kept going out. This was during the recent intense heat wave and with all the rain, the area hung wet and heavy with humidity. The campus is situated in the hills, which made for an intense challenge getting to classes, meals, and back to our rooms without instantly breaking into a sweat. So much for showering that day!

Despite all of this, I never once saw the staff be cross, grumpy, or rude. It’s as if the situation they found themselves in is not worthy of ruining the day. This sense of peace permeated throughout all the attendees at the multiple classes going on during the weekend. Even though all groups were not Reiki practitioners, the Reiki Ideals were being practiced by all, whether they knew it or not.  Just For Today….

Which brings me to the main point. The Spirit of Reiki was everywhere that weekend.  It was in the hills, the trees, the classes, the meals, and the fellow participants, even if they knew nothing about Reiki. The people I met were kind, generous, and compassionate souls doing their best in this life.  They were choosing to focus on what is good in this world instead of what isn’t, sharing love, peace, and kindness instead of dwelling on the lack of air-conditioning!

Don’t get me wrong, the Reiki Conference was amazing. Each presenter brought us a different thought and experience using Reiki. Their depth of knowledge was unparalleled and their willingness to share it with all of us felt incredibly special.  The hands-on practices and guided meditations provided a safe space to feel a fundamental shift and allowed me to go deep within. Their core message was our self-care so that we can better serve others.

Throughout the weekend, I kept coming back to the life of Dr. Usui. He opened himself up and allowed the Spirit of Reiki to move and grow in ways never thought possible, and shared with us that precious gift. It’s the original thought that Dr. Usui had. After he became enlightened on Mount Kurama, he didn’t keep it all to himself.  He shared it many times over, becoming the pure legacy of love that we now know as Reiki today.

Show kindness and caring toward yourselves first and foremost. Go deep into those personal wounds that need healing and allow Reiki to be your guide. Give yourself the time and space to align and live at a higher vibration and shed what’s no longer needed so you can be a beacon of love and light to those around you.

It can be very hard to be a human being these days, with our lives being pulled in many different directions. If we give ourselves the space to breathe and connect with Spirit, then we become more resilient, more giving, and more kind. We may not have a mountain to retreat to and meditate on, but Spirit can move mountains if we allow it to come in.

Ask Reiki to be present in your day-to-day activities and come in to heal what needs to be healed.  Healing doesn’t only occur on the treatment table – it can happen during the most mundane of activities.  Ask Reiki to bless those around you. Ask Reiki to come through your voice and your thoughts, and be present in everything that you do.

Do what Dr. Usui did and share this light.  All you need to do is ask.
