Ibis Jasper” is named after the Ibis bird of Madagascar, a long legged waterfowl, similar to a crane in appearance. Ibis Jasper is considered a Brecciated jasper. Breccia (Italian, breccia “gravel, pieces, fragmented”) refers to stones broken apart and naturally cemented back together by another mineral and the movement of water or weathering by time. The components of Ibis Jasper that make up the stone are crystal, chalcedony. and agate which are all varieties of Quartz crystal.
The Ibis are long legged waterfowl, similar in appearance to a crane. While the better known Egyptian species are white and black, Madagascan Ibis are brownish red instead, with touches of white and blue.
The Ibis stone mimics the waterfowl in coloring. Some pieces have streaks of white which look like the feathers of birds in flight. The Ibis bird is associated with the Egyptian deity Thoth, the god of wisdom, so the stone is said to carry the lineage of Wisdom.
